Building a strong nation begins in the classrooms on the
local, state and national levels. Schools like Charter
School Becoming Collegiate have the responsibility to
provide alternative educational models to prepare for
the future digital careers.
In the 4IR era defined by rapid technological advancement,
the foundation of our nation’s strength lies in preparing
our youngest learners not just to use technology, but to
understand and create with it. Taking digital knowledge,
mentoring and teaching how to apply to real world application.
Introducing basic concepts of Artificial Intelligence (AI)
to third and fourth graders is no longer a thought it is
a DO; it is an essential step in building a generation of
innovators.
Elementary is an impressionable age, students are curious and
imaginative. Basic AI lessons can be powerful tools to inspire
creativity. When students learn how AI can generate images
from text or help write a story using Gemini
(https://gemini.google.com/gem/storybook/b4faf6cbaff8f3c8),
Students at BCA see technology as a canvas for their ideas.
Early exposure encourages students to think outside the box,
problem-solve in new ways, become critical thinkers and view
themselves as creators rather than consumers.
In communities of color and culture the use of Smartphones is
second nature but more innovation, imagination and creativity
instruction is needed. Teachers will need to throw away their
antiquated and “ole skool ways” to apply project-based learning
and hands-on project-based projects.
Applying STEAM education and learning that is blended with aI
should be a priority. Visionary educators are already leading
the way. Those that can provide hands-on and project based
level instruction. Teachers like Jackson, a STEAM educator at
Becoming Collegiate Academy, understand the vital role of
integrating technology into the curriculum. By blending subjects
like Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics
with emerging tools like AI and Virtual Reality, educators
like Jackson are equipping students with the critical thinking
skills needed for future employment.
New teaching tools, it’s about cultivating a mindset of
adaptability and future-readiness. Teaching AI at the elementary
level is directly linked to future employability and national
innovation requires flexibility. As AI continues to reshape
industries, digital literacy will be as crucial as reading and
writing. By providing students with these fundamental skills,
we are opening doors to future careers and ensuring a workforce
capable of building progress.
Investing in blending with AI education and STEAM for all children
is an investment in a stronger, more innovative nation.
STEAM education, including the integration of Technologies like
Robotics and AI, which aligns with the theme of preparing students
for the future through advanced and creative learning tools.
