Building a Digital Newspaper and Podcast with TLAM Students
School Sponsors: P. Canepa and W. Jackson
Twin Lakes Academy Middle School
TLAM students are
learning to apply
digital tools that
are helpful to many
future careers including
those in journalism,
broadcasting, writing,
and reporting.
Twin Lakes Academy Middle School will start the
2021-2022 year off with a newspaper
and podcast club that are student managed.
William Jackson, STEAM Teacher encourages
African elementary, middle and secondary
schools to bring journalism and podcasting
to their students and integrate writing and
podcasting together. During the school year
check out the works our middle school students
are doing and we would love to connect with
African / Indian / Chinese / Japanize / Philippine
and other nationalities globally.
Both sections of the club are growing nationally
and influencing careers for students with
passions and visions for creating content, blogging,
microblogging, broadcasting, writing,
speaking, web development and reporting.
The global use of technology tools and platforms
are influencing what students are being
exposed to and taught in classrooms. Writing is
important, has connections to reading and
comprehension that are valuable so students can
be prepared for careers that demand higher levels
of thinking, problem solving, creativity and higher
order reasoning.
Reading and comprehending, what is being read
are both vital skill sets to perform actions
that employers are looking for in future employees.
Podcasting is a skill that helps students beyond
reading and comprehension. It integrates verbal
skills, student to student collaborations
and working in teams to accomplish goals.
Audio and video have grown for years, providing
information that even addresses accessibility
issues for the visually and auditory impaired.
New technologies are making it easier to create,
develop, publish, and connect content for
collaborations that can branch out globally.

TLAMNPC and TLAMPodcast can share content that
students, parents, and the community can
access and enjoy. Students are growing in their skills,
talents, and abilities that 21st century careers demand.
We are providing digital learning platforms that are
engaging, fun and are used as educational resources
not just in school, but in the whole community.
Students must be able to move forward in the learning
application and development of web based software
and programs to build their digital brands as thought
leaders, content creators and digital innovators.

The works of
Ms. Canepa and
Mr. Jackson are
preparing students
at TLAM for future
careers that have
not even
been created yet.
